College Graduate Career Tips
The party is over. Yes, it is a sad fact that all college students must realize at some point. The late night gorging, binge-drinking, and dorm-living is ready to fade into an endless sunset. As the real world looms before you it is nearly impossible to not want to enroll again and start another major, but sadly, unless you’re headed to graduate school, this is not likely an option for recent college graduates.
It all happens at once. You graduate and many of your friends may be going in different directions. You’ve got this nifty diploma, but you worry that you’re not really battle-tested. It’s a tough road to tread. I’ve seen plenty of my friends agonize about what they were going to do and I’ve done some of my own agonizing. The good thing is that it usually works out in the long run. I learned, but it was through trial-and-error. Just like a stiff drink – it was a little heavy on the error!
But if you are looking for some advice from someone who has been where you are now and emerged from the chaos like a vampire doused with UV500 sun-block watching the sunrise in Ecuador, then read on for some great advice for college students heading into the real world.
I’ve got a bunch of valuable career tips that can ease your transition into the realm of adulthood. Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as choosing between a red and blue pill. The job market is more competitive than ever – more people are graduating from college than ever before. The first thing you should do is really brainstorm what you want to do with your life. Once you figure that out you’re half-way there. Sometimes getting an opportunity to do what you love may not be the most profitable. Resist the temptation to take a job you like less than another option simply because it pays more. If you are doing what you love it is likely that you will be highly successful in your field down the line.
This is really the most important decision you have to make. The opportunity to make more money is incredibly enticing, but in the long-run, it won’t be your best choice. You’ve got a diploma – you should make it work for you and not the other way around!
You may also be worried about where to find quality housing. It may be something you’ve never had to worry about before. And yes, it’s a bit scary at first. But there are many resources you can use to make your search easier. Finding a roommate may be an option. You can also sublease or sublet a property which can help save you a great deal of your hard-earned money. You’ve got plenty of time to save and work for the future. Don’t try to rush the gun – life is a marathon, not a sprint. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither are most careers!
